Jersey.

She was hanging around the church building today, when I came out to walk home for lunch. I had a book under my arm (Living Gently in a Violent World - The Prophetic Witness of Weakness by Jean Vanier & Stanley Hauerwas). She basically took it out from underneath my arm. She opened it up at the bookmark, apparently looking to read something inspiring or interesting. Having no idea how to explain the book, I tried to quickly summarize a key theme or two - sounding like I just woke up in class to answer a question, I knew little about. Regardless, I imagine she read through the few highlighted sentences of Jean Vanier that read...

"We were born weak. We needed Unconditional love...I am glad you exist."

Maybe she will believe that today - despite the horrendous open sores on her arms - despite being picked up by a stranger, who doesn't believe she is human.

She is human, goddammit, and her name is Jersey.

She is dependent on God. She does not walk alone.
