Transition & Passing

...

The end of August. Still homeless, per se, but in the past two weeks, I feel that I have made highly significant connections with some fantastic persons in Columbus, all who are and have been working towards peace, justice, and reconciliation in some fashion or another. A Priest, a Professor, and a Peace Corp Volunteer, as it were - not to mention that they are all female. I am really looking forward to continuing and strengthening those relationships, as well as a few others.

I have begun to feel more at home in Franklinton, walking around, recognizing people, people recognizing me (or at least my beard) - as well as getting to intentionally know a couple of new families in my program. The Redcays have moved in, and I really look forward to living just down the street from them. Jeremy and Jessica have whipped up their house in a hurry this month, and it looks like they have been there for a few years already.

However, I still look forward to going down to Ironton every weekend to be with Kelsie and the children. Last week, a thunderstorm woke me up about 7:30am on Saturday. I went to look out the front door, and on the way, Magnolia saw me and yelled to me, and then stretched her arms to the sky for me to pick her up. So we went out on the porch to watch. The sun was curious, as it shined through like it might in a late evening storm. It made for a nice texture of color. The rain came, and Maggie (usually overwhelmed with energy and craziness), sat up on my lap for 15 or 20 minutes, silent. And so we sat, calm as a hurricane eye, watching the early morning storm pass over us.

Lastly, Ingmar Bergman died about a month ago. Here is the New York Times Tribute. It is truly impossible for me to convey his brilliance as a screenwriter/director, mostly because I am unable to grasp it for myself. Below are two scenes from "Winter's Light", which is one of three films known as the "God's Silence" trilogy. Criterion Collection.
