alphabet soup

unexpected, but my little kindergarten dude absolutely refused to come to tutoring today. kids in an urban poor context generally look forward to tutoring sessions, simply because of the one-on-one time that they rarely get, but so desire. his teacher apologized out of frustration (at him), stating that he is doing very poorly in all areas of class (as if he needs to get his shit together), and that he spat on a teacher last week. she began to make a small excuse for him, because his grandmother explained that he has had a difficult transition with a new sibling that was recently born into the family - just before she went on to tell me that she had siblings and that it was not difficult for her.

fail.

the tutoring coordinator went into the lunch room to talk with Q to see if she might be able to persuade him to change his mind, to which he responded with tears that dropped from his face into his lunch.

I was told to come back and try again next week.

I imagine that Q is overwhelmed with anxiety and does not feel safe at school or at home. who knows what home is actually like for him?
