"It's a long way down (one more thing)"
It is quite obvious, yet still poignant to state, that there is no greater exploiter of the relational holocaust than the adult porn industry (aka Capitalism). According to Forbes, the total current income of the country's adult entertainment is often rated at $10–13 billion, of which $4–6 billion are legal.
and it is only worth mentioning for two reasons: Paul Thomas Anderson's film "Boogie Nights" is not a film about the porn industry and a really big cock, but rather exclusively about the relational holocaust and a gigantic spiritual void. and the reason for that is because the principals and fallacies that sustain the sex industry, are the same principals and fallacies that guide our decisions to abandon one person, place, or thing (ie job), for a "better" person, place, or thing (ie job). we must remember that we can fuck somebody without ever having intercourse with them. the porn industry just happens to do both.
Does that make sense?
Sometimes it is really just a matter of language. What if...instead of Church denominations, we said Church divorces? Would that be appropriate? Would we be willing to explore it? and what would that mean if at all true?
or what if...in our understanding of Eden, we considered our divorces, actual deaths - and even had funerals! when Adam and Eve chose to eat the fruit, death entered the world. and death has not just become the greatest symbol for separation from God and one another, but the ultimate reality of death and separation cannot be avoided even by those who choose love and reconciliation and healing among their relationships.
and so, is our idea of individual freedom, any different from that of Dirk Diggler? have we become just as lustful, greedy, and discontent as Dirk - in search of the right person, the right place, the right job, the right community, the right church, and the right god in hopes that we can experience an eternal orgasm of happiness? does that make you horny? well, does it?
I guess at this point, we have hit some sort of bottom, and we should try to define the terms of healing for this particular relational holocaust of this particular time we live in. I apologize that my style of writing is really no style at all, and that many times, you may really have no clue what I am actually saying. but mostly, if i cared about that, i wouldn't write (or i might proof read). and so i am writing this in hopes to gain some kind of clarity of mind and spirit, so that i might have something of worth to give to anyone interested in reconciling these things.
