Being completely un-prepared to watch a film of this stature last night, I felt as though I had been beaten and bashed after it was finally over. It is not quite as over-the-top as the above poster suggests, but it is adapted from Steinbeck - and it is a modern retelling of the Cain and Abel story.

which leads me to a place of exploration that i would have eventually ended up in, anyways - the origin story of our ungrateful, discontented way of being in the world. it's a doozy, believe me. but there is a tunnel, with light at the end of it. maybe we will make it there.
