M.I.A. (Maya Arulpragasam), a political Sri Lankan artist (clothing, music, producer, etc. - who performed at the very end of her 9 month pregnancy at the Grammy awards last Feb.) had this to say about Michael Jackson's death...

"'MICHAEL JACKSON' the first 2 english words i eva spoke . the future sucx!"

that is profound influence - not just the first world, but even the third.

"they don't really care about us", from disc 2 of the "HIStory" album, continues to be one of Michael's more insightful songs, about media and exploitation in general, also specific to his own life, at the time. check it out. good video.

Without having great emotional connection to Michael, I am dumbfounded by how his life and music have been incredibly present, and somewhat invasive even, in the majority of my own existence.

maybe he won't be so weird in the after-life.

This quote is from one of my favorite blogs (a guy named Ken Levine who wrote for MASH). On the non stop coverage of the reaction to Jackson's death:

One fan said the world’s going to unite, just like they did with Obama. She said his death was on a par with Martin Luther King and Gandhi. (The reporter added “and Sinatra”) And this fan went on to predict, “You’re going to see a paradigm shift in the consciousness of what one man did.” I’m not sure what that means but I’m using it my next eulogy.

Made me laugh. Peace...
