Christopher Nolan's strength (in part) is his ability to bring his films to an actual end, with an actual resolution. Although I need to see it again, I don't, at this time, feel that he succeeded at resolving the story this time around, but maybe I missed something. I can say, however, that it was not nearly as strong as "Batman Begins", in plot - easily being the most predictable film that Nolan has ever made, in general, which is a disappointment. However, that could be, in part, because I have read most of the influential material, like "The Long Halloween" - which I wasn't greatly impressed with either, as far as resolution goes. or maybe I am just missing something. who knows?

there is something i do know...this film, like the above graphic novel, was almost exclusively about The Joker. and the combination of the script, influence, and then the most excruciatingly brilliant performance of a madman (at least, since Daniel Day-Lewis in "There Will Be Blood"), is everything you would ever want to see and experience with a film. However, also like TWBB, the madness is so intimate, intense, disturbing, and violent - it will make you look away from the screen. grotesque, I guess, is the best way to sound it out.

Heath Ledger was astonishing. and i went in with very high expectations.

Spoiler Warning:

The themes of the film were right in line with much of the reading, which I appreciated. Being that the case, as Bruce must go deeper into the shadows (and with the death of Rachel Dawes and Harvey Dent), I do expect the development of Selina Kyle, hopefully written in as a prostitute, for the third installment.
