Richard Buckner

In preparation for Bonnaroo, I often reflect on the best shows that I have experienced.

I thought I should share this one:





a friend and I saw Richard at Johnny D's in Somerville, MA like three years ago. It was this really small venue, that would appear to only be a bar/restaurant, if they had a table or two on the small stage - and the stage itself was almost level with the seating area. So we were just as close as it appears on the videos, above. Burgers, Oatmeal Stouts, and this guy that I had never heard or seen, who never opened his eyes, barely spoke - and darted to the rear exit just as soon as he put down his guitar at intermission and at the end. It was intensely vulnerable - more so because I had told my friend, before the show began, that I hoped that he would have children someday, so that we could share the experience of being a father. He intensely replied, "Fuck You!"

those burgers were damn good.
