"Happiness only real when shared."

I believe that Christopher, in that moment, had crossed the same bridge that Jonah Crow had crossed during his journey through Kentucky. That was absolutely the same moment. I felt it.

It is, of course, unfortunate that Christopher did not also cross a bridge, literally, as Jonah did - especially noting that Chris had either not found, or simply rejected, a crank bridge that was only 1/4 of a mile away from the place he originally crossed the river when frozen.

It is burdensome to me, to not have seen Chris live out his life, as Jayber lived out his, through fiction - but at least I know what it should have looked like, so that we can practice resurrection.

I also think that between the three stories of Jayber, Gotama, and Supertramp, the theme of the river is consistent and essential. The river is one of our greatest teachers. More than that, it can give and take life. We must reflect on this. And we must reject the modern perspective of the river - which tries to dominate and control the river - and in arrogance, pollutes the river.

and from that, comes the most essential thought about the importance of "Into the Wild"...While Christopher's rejection of modernity and American/Western culture, cost him his physical life...the cost of modernity and globalization is the loss of humanity, of spirituality, of meaning, of "happiness". - and even still, there will be blood.
