Today was Canaan's first day of pre-school. We were all very anxious and emotional, for various reasons. These pictures were taken when we picked him up - it was impossible to take them when we dropped him off. Kelsie could not have done it alone. I took him to his classroom, after he met his teacher (Miss Jessica) and his teacher's aid (Mr. Jones). He was clinging to me for life and did not want to be left there with the few other children and himself. I finally sat him down when activities began, him crying, getting attention that he did not want, and being settled by Miss Jessica and Mr. Jones. According to Miss Jessica, once they began to talk about concepts (big/small, tall/short), soon after I left, he came right out of his shell and began interacting. The class went to the music room (to join another class) to learn about music, dance around, and play instruments. Normally, Canaan would immediately be overwhelmed and shut-down. However, he danced around and even played the xylophone as well. That is almost the same as the lame-man picking up his mat and walking. Anyway, he went back to his classroom - helped his teacher pass out plates - had a snack - and then I came and picked him up. Nobody expected him to function so well on the first day of school. Maybe that was his defense mechanism today - to over-compensate. I don't know. But I believe that people prayed for Canaan today - and I know that we have invited God into Canaan's life and circumstance. In our experience with that kind of prayer, we have not been disappointed - even when we experience suffering and turmoil through the process. This is encouraging and good. If we could only get into our "home, again".

Canaan also has glasses now - bit of a hipster, I suppose.

I was with him (and you & Kelsie) every step of the way. God is so good and His Grace is sufficient.
