TV Reporter: Why did you do it, Leland?
Leland: Because of the sadness.
TV Reporter: What sadness? Whose sadness?
Leland: Your sadness.
It is probably a vulnerable thing to say I understand...
To understand that whatever good is in someone is imprisoned within them, because they are only seen as mentally ill, mentally disable, a criminal, a rapist, a thief, a bastard, a retard, a murderer, etc...
Maybe it is too sad to accept that they can love, or worse, they will love, should someone hug them and let them know it will be alright.
so we label them...then sigh in relief when they are executed, or when they commit suicide, or when they are committed to an institution that hides them from society.
and when we peek in on our immense failures, we remember that we are only human, and we blame everything but ourselves, because who can live with such failure? Yet, that seems to be the majority of our being.
so maybe we should begin to set forth in seeking forgiveness, in seeking reconciliation, not just for ourselves, but for our ancestors, our "religion", our State.
if we do believe in hope, in being forgiven...then people will only know us by our forgiveness of others.
without such hope, we also will find a way to execute those that make us too sad.
Leland: I think there are two ways you can see the world. You either see the sadness that's behind everything or you choose to keep it all out.
